A 10.5-inch flagship tablet could launch alongside a 9.7-inch budget iPad.
Apple’s main announcement at its WWDC conference in June could be a new iPad Pro rather than the new connected speaker as previously rumoured, according to MacRumors.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that as well as an Amazon Echo-style speaker, the company could release details about its 10.5-inch iPad Pro, adding he thinks there’s 70% chance of the company announcing the larger tablet.
Although the 10.5-inch iPad Pro would have the same footprint as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, Apple will be shrinking down the bezel to accommodate a bigger screen.
“The newly designed 10.5” iPad Pro will have a similar form factor to the 9.7” model, but will feature a larger display thanks to narrow bezels,” Kuo said. “The new design should improve the user experience and help gain traction in the corporate/commercial sectors. We forecast 10.5” iPad shipments of 5.0-69mn units in 2017F, accounting for 15% of total 2017F iPad shipments.”
Production of the larger iPad Pro has already started, Kuo said, with plans to ramp up by the end of the second quarter of the year.
These predictions are nothing new though. Kuo has been hinting the company would actually announce three new iPad models this year, including a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2, the rumoured 10.5-incher and a 9.7-inch budget iPad for quite some time.
